Former Tennessee State basketball coach Nolan Richardson III was found dead in his Tulsa home on Sunday.
The son of former Arkansas and Tulsa basketball coach Nolan Richardson, was found dead by his wife, officer Jason Willingham told the Associated Press on Monday. Willingham said the 47-year-old appeared to have died from natural causes.
“I was very saddened [Sunday] to hear of the death of Nolan Richardson III,” TSU athletics director Teresa Phillips said. “My thoughts immediately went to his wife, children and of course to his father. My deepest condolences go out to the Richardson family during this very difficult time in their lives.”
Richardson III compiled a 23-41 record at TSU from 2000-03. He resigned halfway through the 2002-03 season after bringing a gun into the Gentry Center to confront an assistant coach.
