The 17-year-old rape suspect wanted by police for a sexual assault that caused a two-hour lockdown of Pearl-Cohn High School surrendered Tuesday night at the Juvenile Justice Center.
An arrest order was issued Tuesday afternoon charging the juvenile with aggravated rape just hours after police allege he sexually assaulted and robbed a 23-year-old woman inside her Booker Street residence at gunpoint.
The home invasion led police to shut down part of Booker street between 24th and 25th avenues for a while as they searched for a suspect and investigated the crime scene. Nearby, Pearl-Cohn was also placed on lockdown.
Police said Tuesday they believe the suspect fled the scene in a getweay car and was later dropped off near Edgehill Avenue. He may face additional charges besides the aggravated rape charge.
