Middle Tennessee State left-hander Johnathan Frebis was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, Collegiate Baseball announced on Wednesday.
Frebis, a 6-foot-3, 190-pounder from Murfreesboro, went 6-3 to lead the team in wins. In 15 starts, he had a 3.65 ERA and a team-high 61 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings, also tops on the team. The Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year ranked second in the league with a .226 opponent batting average.
Against St. Louis University in February, he tossed five innings of shutout ball to become the first Blue Raider to pitch at least five innings without allowing a run in his collegiate debut.
It was the sixth time an MTSU player earned the honor and the first since Bryce Brentz in 2008. For the first time since 2008, Vanderbilt did not have a player make the team, which consisted of 96 players.
