Mayor Karl Dean is set to join first lady Michelle Obama in Philadelphia on Wednesday as she announces public and private sector commitments to the “Let’s Move!” initiative.
The announcement is scheduled to take place at 10:50 Wednesday morning at the Lenfest Police Athletic Club. Dean is one of several other mayors. Other mayors set to join Obama include the mayors Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., Oklahoma City, Jackson, Miss., Sacramento, Calif., New Orleans, and Charleston, S.C., among others.
The first lady’s “Let’s Move!” initiative aims at encouraging children to lead healthier lives and hopes to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation.
During his tenure, Dean has encouraged thousands to participate in programs such as the “100 Miles with the Mayor” health challenge and the “Mayor’s Challenge 5K Walk/Run” last year, along with “Mayor’s Field Day with the Tennessee Titans” earlier this year.
