A jury has found two men charged with first-degree murder in the July 2009 killing of 12-year-old Mikia Woodland not guilty.
The trial for Cedric Peppers, 29, and Justin Howard, 24, began on Monday, and the jury started deliberating Thursday before resuming Friday morning and reaching a verdict around 10:15 a.m.
In all, five men were charged in Woodland’s shooting death on Maury Street, in the Napier area, after several men broke into her home and confronted Woodland’s grandmother.
As the grandmother called police, she heard gunshots and later found her granddaughter had been shot.
Ronald Roseman, who was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January and is serving a 20-year sentence.
The two other defendants — Raphael Turner, 22, and Dale Foxx Jr., 22 — are awaiting trial.
