Police have identified the man fatally shot Tuesday on Chase Street as 19-year-old Alajawon Dillard.
Metro detectives haven’t yet determined whether Dillard was shot by another man or shot himself by accident.
William Davis, 32, told police that Dillard showed up with a pistol at the Chase Street home of Davis’ girlfriend. Davis, who was also armed, said he shot at Dillard, who then ran a short distance and collapsed.
Investigators said they recovered both a jammed semi-automatic pistol next to Dillard’s body and the gun they believe Davis fired at Dillard.
The investigation continues and detectives were expected to attend the autopsy Wednesday in an effort to determine from which gun Dillard’s wound came.
Both men have past convictions, according to police, Dillard for armed robbery and Davis for felony marijuana possession.
