Middle Tennessee State has accepted an invitation to join Conference USA.
MTSU officials would not confirm reports of the move but an athletics press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday. The Virginian-Pilot first reported the news on Wednesday.
The decision comes just a day after Eastern Carolina and Tulane announced they were leaving C-USA for the Big East.
MTSU has been a member of the Sun Belt Conference since 2001 but was a finalist for C-USA expansion five months ago.
The Blue Raiders have been a consistent power in the Sun Belt, especially in football and men’s and women’s basketball. The football team is bowl-eligible for the third time four years and plays Arkansas State on Saturday for the outright Sun Belt football championship. Both basketball programs captured the regular-season conference crowns last year and women’s basketball reached the NCAA Tournament seven of the last eight years.
MTSU would be the 13th member of C-USA. In May, it was announced Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Old Dominion and the University of Texas at San Antonio were joining the conference on July 1, 2013.
