An Antioch woman is charged with first-degree murder after a 2-month-old boy died under her care in August.
Metro police arrested Mary Ann Lane, 57, at her Brentridge Drive home Saturday night for allegedly striking the infant in the head with an “unknown blunt object, a deadly weapon or dangerous instrumentality,” according to a grand jury indictment.
Lane had arranged to take care of the baby through the child’s grandmother, according to police. She told the child’s grandmother and mother on Aug. 13 that she had fallen down while holding the baby. Lane called 911 and the child was transported to Vanderbilt. The baby later died on Aug. 15.
A medical examiner’s report stated that the child’s injuries were not consistent with a fall.
A Davidson County grand jury indicted Lane last week on felony murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect charges.
Lane is being held on $200,000 bond.
