Keel to chair MTSU department
Beverly Keel , a veteran music journalist and former recording industry executive, has been named chair of the Middle Tennessee State University Department of Recording Industry, effective Aug. 1.
Professor Bill Crabtree will continue serving as interim chair of the department until then.
Keel recently returned to the university’s College of Mass Communication after taking a leave of absence to serve as senior vice president of media and artist relations for Universal Music Group Nashville.
Keel earned her bachelor’s degree from MTSU and her master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Morgan joins First Freedom Bank
Shannon Morgan  has joined First Freedom Bank as a customer service representative in the Providence office. She was previously the manager of the Mt. Juliet Chico’s.
Morgan attended O’More College of Design.
Fifth Third Bank names mortgage loan originator
John W. Honeysucker II  joins Fifth Third Bank as a mortgage loan officer at the Old Fort Parkway Financial Center located in Murfreesboro. He was previously employed at Creative Vision Mortgage and has 12 years of experience in the financial services industry.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Honeysucker is a certified arbitrator through the Better Business Bureau and previously served as a radio talk show host for Financial Empowerment and Financial Prosperity.
Honeysucker is a graduate of Tennessee State University with a B.B.A. in business administration and of Nashville Tech with an A.A. in business finance.
Hylant adds two principals
Regional insurance brokerage Hylant has acquired a Brentwood-based firm specializing in employee benefits and brought on board that venture’s principals.
Hylant, which is headquartered in Ohio, has snapped up Benefit Consulting Alliance and an affiliated company, Benefit Outsourcing Group. Kim Riley, the former First Horizon Insurance executive who now leads Hylant’s local office, said the move will let her team add to its range of services. The acquisition, she added, “also demonstrates our commitment to the Nashville market and the need for employee benefit consulting expertise.”
BCA and BOG are run by Wayne Emery (on left in this photo ) and John Maple (on right in photo). Emery has been a partner at BCA since 2001 and serves on the Broker Advisory Council for Aetna and United Healthcare. Maple is executive vice president at BCA and a partner at BOG with nearly 30 years of experience.
“This merger allows BCA/BOG to develop and grow our service model for our clients with greater access to resources that are required in today’s challenging environment of healthcare reform,” Emery said.
Sounds promote five, add three
Nashville Sounds Baseball Club officials have announced five promotions and three additions to the front office staff.
Jason Franke , who has served as the Sounds' director of corporate partnerships since December 2011, has been promoted to assistant general manager of sales and marketing. Prior to joining the Sounds, Franke spent 12 seasons with the PGA Championship, Tampa Bay Lightning, Utah Jazz, and Detroit Pistons.
“Jason's sponsorship and entertainment management experience combined with his successful first year in Music City will provide a solid base for leadership. I am excited to elevate him to this key position on our corporate team,” Sounds General Manager Brad Tammen said in a release.
Other internal promotions for the Sounds include the following:
Drew Himsworth  has been elevated to the team's director of group sales and hospitality after serving as sales and sports marketing manager since joining the team in January 2009.
Brandon Yerger  has been promoted to corporate partnerships and promotions manager.
Wassel will oversee the team's publications, website, social media, and graphic design efforts while acting as the primary media liaison for baseball information. Prior to joining the Sounds, the Middle Tennessee native and University of Tennessee graduate spent three seasons with the Class A Great Lakes (Mich.) Loons, most recently as director of communications.
Barnes and Webster will be responsible for season ticket and group sales at Greer Stadium.
Barnes graduated from Lambuth University with a business administration degree.
Webster received a sport management degree from Ohio University.
