Ensworth's Corn Elder finally announces college choice

The reference to one of basketball’s all-time greats is anything but subtle in Corn Elder’s Twitter handle -- @AIR_CORN23.

While it is asking a lot to think that he could be the next Michael Jordan, it seems no one will ask the Ensworth multi-sport star to give up basketball in college.

Elder announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he intended to sign a national letter-of-intent with the University of Miami football program and followed with the assertion that he “probably” would play basketball as well.

“Just committed to the university of Miami been my favorite school since I was little  #blessed glad this over with,” Elder wrote on Twitter.

According to reports, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Georgia Tech and Auburn all offered him the opportunity to play both sports.

He made it known in advance of last Wednesday's national signing day that he planned to take extra time before he made his choice.

Elder is a two-time Tennessee Mr. Football and a key piece of Ensworth’s current streak of three straight Division II-AA state championships. He finished as the state’s all-time leading rusher with 6,369 yards and 81 touchdowns.

He was the offensive MVP of the 2012 state championship game when he rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns.

He also is a two-time MVP of the state basketball tournament and a member of two state championship teams. He and the Tigers will try to make it three in a row in that sport as well.

He is a Mr. Basketball finalist this year – all finalists were announced Wednesday [1] – and averages 20 points and six assists per game.

At 5-foot-10, 165 pounds he is rated a four-star football recruit as an athlete and a two or three-star point guard prospect in basketball.
