Hubie Smith, who led Ensworth to two TSSAA Division II-AA girls championships, was named boys basketball coach at Brentwood Academy on Tuesday.
“We are grateful that Coach Smith is joining the BA faculty,” Headmaster Curt Masters, said in a letter to the school community posted on the BA website. “His extensive coaching experience, his positive influence, and his love for the Lord will be a perfect fit with our mission.”
Smith took over the Ensworth girls program in 2008 and guided it to state titles in 2010 and 2013. His Tigers also finished as runners-up twice.
His career includes extensive experience as a boys basketball coach, though. He was 440-190 in 19 seasons at Bartlett High School. He also was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Lipscomb University and director of basketball operations for the Belmont men’s team.
At BA, he replaces Lyle Husband, who remains a faculty member at the school.
“Coach Smith has a wealth of experience with summer camps and leagues,” Masters said. “He will oversee our school’s camps program and will help develop youth athletic programs in the community.”
